This is the last Hot Club of the year and we have a couple of very special guests coming in for the holidays. We are excited to have Tonia “the Knife” Davis and Naomi “the soup spoon” Boswell.

ERUUF (Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship)
4907 Garret Rd
Durham, NC 27707

Free Beginner Lesson- Charleston at 7pm

Get on the floor fast with this high energy dance from the roaring 20’s. We at Hot Club find that this dance is the easiest and most fun to start with. We are happy to welcome Naomi Boswell back to North Carolina to help us teach this class! Naomi is an experienced dancer who’s been living in the swing dance mecca, Seattle since she left here. She’ll be teaching with Joe Jackson.

DJs- Start at 8pm

Tonia “the Knife” Davis is back again as our feature DJ. As you may or may not know, there is a recently discovered Louis Armstrong song about her. She’s awesome enough that Louis Armstrong saw 60 years into the future and wrote a song about her, so you really don’t want to miss her set. Missing Tonia’s sets has been shown to cause cancer in lab rats.

Nicole “the dizzle” Dienert is our house DJ this week. As usual she is not to be missed. You all know how much she dislikes it when you miss her sets. You don’t want to upset Nicole, believe me.

12/15 Hot Club – Gift Certificates by hotclub

Hot Club is back to normal this week. There’s no cooking contest, blues themes, or competitions this week. There’s just some good old fashioned swing dancing! I know I can’t wait. We will also be announcing a special treat for the 12/22 dance this week. Be there! It is written.

We also have super-awesome Hot Club gift certificates available. They are great for Christmas presents to current dancers, and soon to be dancers. Give ’em to your friends, enemies, grandmas, or anyone else who might want to cut a rug with us! They are available in all denominations at the door to Hot Club dances and classes and are good for any Hot Club dances or classes!

They are also available online!

Hot Club of Durham Swing Dance
7pm: Beginner Lesson–Balboa
8-11pm: Dancing!

Lesson – Balboa Beginner Lesson- Starts at 7 pm

Taught by the one and only Cliff Dyer

Balboa is another swing era dance that is loosely based on Charleston. It was danced primarily on the West Coast in the late 20’s and 30’s, and gets its signature look from the fact that the ballrooms in California were packed to the gills. This is a great dance to add to your repertoire! This class is suitable for brand new beginners and experienced dancers. Cliff is known for his attention to good technique and connection. With this class you won’t only look good, your dancing will feel good too.

DJs Start at 8pm

DJ TBA – DJ TBA is a dark and mysterious figure. He’s usually replaced by one of our regular DJs prior to the dance, so he’s never actually played a set. Maybe this time he will finally reveal himself.

Joe Jackson – Our house DJ Joe will have you “Steppin’ Out” to some of the best swing music you’ve ever heard. He’ll make you “Beat Crazy,” and you’ll want to dance “One More Time.”

Extra points to anyone who figures out the reference above.

12/8 Hot Club of Durham Dance – Son of Blues

We had such a great turnout to our blues themed Hot Club last month that we thought we would do it again. So now you have yet another opportunity to blues dance while Dance Blues Friday is on hiatus. Kristy will be back with us, but we will be changing up the lesson and house DJ. It will be tons of fun.

Hot Club of Durham Swing Dance (Directions)
7pm: Lesson–Slow Lindy
8-11pm: Dancing!

Lesson – Slow Lindy – Starts at 7 pm

With those classy cats, Joe & Rebecca

Ever wonder what the heck to do when the tempos slow down? You don’t have to learn a new dance, nor do you have to revert back to the uncomfortable swaying that characterized your middle school slow dances. In fact, you can do the Lindy Hop you know and love at even the slowest tempos. In this class we’ll cover technique to dust off your slow lindy: e.g. control, balance, play, and “milking it”. Whether you’ve been dancing for years or know only some basic lindy hop (either 6 or 8-ct), this class will be appropriate for you.

Still my favorite clip of slow lindy hop…

DJs Start at 8pm

Kristy Milliken – Our featured DJ for the night wowed you last time. She’s an experienced Blues and Swing DJ. She is multi-talented, multi-faceted, multi-tasking and multi-plied. She is guaranteed to keep you on the floor for multi-ple dances!

Rebecca Brightly – Our house DJ has been testing the bluesy waters by teaching and dancing it. Now she’s going to DJ blues for her first time ever. I’m not sure what to expect, but I expect it to be good.
